Sergio Mitre is Stealing Americans' Balls

Best attendance, everrr

Four days after Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 600th home run, the controversy over possession of the home run ball is showing no signs of a resolution. In fact, it's getting weirder. At the center of the dispute is the mysterious holder of the ball, a man in a Sergio Mitre replica jersey known only as "Joe." The anonymous fan claims to have caught the ball on Monday night, but is being sued by Justin Kimball for civil theft and battery. Kimball says that he had the ball until "Joe" wrestled it away from him. He is accused of doing the same thing to the woman that caught Dan Uggla's walk-off grand slam.

I totally see where "Joe" is coming from. I'd want to protect my identity too. There's no telling the kind of ridicule you'd receive for actually shelling out 60 bucks for a Sergio Mitre jersey. The guy has a 10-23 lifetime record. With those stats, maybe it's Mitre who should protect his identity by wearing a "Joe" jersey.

Video replays were inconclusive as to who originally caught the ball, but I don't buy it. I saw the game, there were ten people at most in those bleachers. Step your game up, cameraman.
